Historic Greenwood Cemetery is located in Olde Towne Slidell at 200-299 Brian Street near Brock Elementary on the corner of Guzman & Second St.
Lying within the grounds of Greenwood is a goldmine of Slidell History. This cemetery is the resting place of our founding fathers and first industrialists. The namesakes of many of Slidell's main thoroughfares (Gause, Carr, etc.) are buried there. It is also the resting place of the city's poor. Those who can’t afford a private burial are interred in the Potter’s Field. In most cases those graves are not permanently marked.
Free, one-hour tours are offered by local historian John Case to groups of five or more, by appointment. Tours are generally Monday through Thursday, though weekend tours may be available for large groups. Call (985) 707-8727 for more information. Be sure to wear appropriate shoes and clothing in the event of rain. The area is not handicap accessible. Parking available at the corner of Guzman and Second Sts.
