Join the Northshore Traditional Music Society (NSTMS) on Saturday, May 25 at 4:00 PM at the Abita Springs Town Hall for Shamrock Soirée: A Celebration of Irish Music, Dance, and Food, a heartfelt evening of Irish music and dance, featuring master Irish fiddler, Gerry O’Connor, Beth Patterson, Kendall Rogers, and the Ryan School of Irish Dance. The performance will be followed by a small social, a traditional Irish meal, and a céilí (community dance). Community musicians are also invited to join in a jam session at the end of the evening!

NSTMS is honored to host the internationally celebrated Gerry O’Connor from Dundalk, Ireland, and is thrilled to have him perform for the Northshore community. He is hailed as “one of the great fiddle players of his generation.” Mr. O’Connor is an excellent teacher as well. He will be the artist-in-residence for the Northshore Strings Fiddle Camp the following week (May 26-31 in Covington).

Joining the performance from New Orleans is Celtic/Cajun artist Beth Patterson, Irish-bouzouki extraordinaire. She describes her style as “a progressive sound with Celtic music and other ethnic styles, resulting in her own sound she dubs “SWAP” (Songwriter/World/Acoustic/Progressive).” We are excited to have her energy and talent opening our show.

Backing up the musicians on the keys is multi-instrumentalist and contra dance caller Kendall Rogers. He is from Baton Rouge and often joins the NSTMS monthly Celtic session!

Showcasing the intricate footwork of Irish step dancing will be dancers from the Ryan School of Irish Dance. This dance school “strives to provide a fun learning experience where life-long friendships are made and Irish culture is carried on.”

Lastly, you are invited to stay after the musical portion of this event to meet the musicians, enjoy a meal, and participate in the céilí. Owner and head-baker of Happy Flour Bakery, Patrick McElligott, and his family have volunteered to provide a traditional Irish meal for the concert-goers.

You can purchase tickets for the Shamrock Soirée at  or by visiting General admission is $25. Student tickets are $15. Pre-registered Northshore Strings Fiddle Camp students can come for free!

Musical traditions develop and are sustained when and where music-making is woven into the social fabric of a community. The Northshore Traditional Music Society endeavors to help neighbors enjoy and make music together. “Music of the people, for the people, by the people” encapsulates this vision to see music making “democratized” on the Northshore. NSTMS’s programs are intended to accomplish three objectives: (1) to inspire through concerts, (2) to gather for music making, and (3) to educate.

Visit or follow the Northshore Traditional Music Society on Facebook and Instagram to learn more and stay informed about their upcoming traditional music concerts, camps, workshops, jams/sessions, and open mic events.
