The Atrium Gallery at Christwood presents "Inga Falterman - A Retrospective", on view May 11-June 28, 2024. The exhibit is retrospective of the artist's work in Louisiana, primarily large landscapes, in the range of four, six and eight feet. All are oil on panel.

An opening reception will be held on Saturday, May 11, 4:30-6:30 p.m. Admission is free and open to the public. The exhibit continues through June 28.
The gallery is regularly open to the public 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

Inga Clough Falterman hails from the Chesapeake Bay area in Virginia. She received her BA from the University of Richmond and her MFA from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn and later moved south to Louisiana and was introduced to blue-water fishing while serving as a deckhand for her husband, who ran, and still runs, a charter service out of Venice, LA.

And all the while, she painted, mostly large representational landscapes. “Always hoping to be somewhere, my work is rooted in landscape. The spaces I present are where hoping is a constant, and they incite the viewer to feel either diminished or strong, and sometimes simultaneously insignificant and important,” she explains. “In my most recent work, the density of the southern landscape creates a conflicted hope. My aim is to create a situation where the viewer wants to move forward, but also has second thoughts engaging. Here exists the desire to keep in bed, so to speak, with the desire to change.”

Today, Inga lives with her husband on the Northshore, working and teaching at the St. Tammany Art Association. Her specialties, she says, are "all genres within the printmaking discipline, as well as painting and drawing".
