Robert H. Burns American Legion Post #16 will host a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 27, 2024, at the St. Tammany Parish Justice Center, 701 N. Columbia St. in downtown Covington. The program begins at 10 a.m. and admission is free.

Following the one-hour ceremony, guests are invited to attend the City of Covington's reception with live music and refreshments at Bogue Falaya Hall at the Greater Covington Center, 317 N. Jefferson Ave., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Memorial Day honors the men and women who died while serving in the U.S. military. The program this year features the St. Tammany Veterans Honor Guard, performances of patriotic songs, and speakers from the Post 16 Auxiliary, DAR, Justin McLeese Marine Corps Detachment and VFW Post 7286. Also speaking are special guests St. Tammany Parish President Mike Cooper, Covington Councilman At-large Larry Rolling and Louisiana Dept. of Veterans Affairs' Mike Perfinkski. Persons will be honored with a laying of wreaths, rifle salute, Taps, and more.

American Legion Post #16, founded in 1919, is one of the nation’s oldest Posts and Louisiana's second largest. It is affiliated with The American Legion, the nation’s largest organization of U.S. wartime veterans and families. Post 16 is located 2031 Ronald Reagan Highway, Covington, LA 70433.
